An offer you can't refuse...
The main character in the story is a cab driver named Thomas Angelo, who is lucky to be one of the few employed during the United States depression. However as with all good things this soon ends when he finds gangsters working for Don Salieri jumping in the back of his taxi ordering him to lose their pursuers ? gangsters working for Don Morello - which he duly did. As the gangsters observed his above average driving skills they offered him work but he refused. When he thought his brush with excitement was over the same persuing gangsters found his cab and destroyed it after giving him a swift beating. Tommy?s only means of income was destroyed right there and so he had one choice - he decided to go and see Don Salieri to see if the job offer was still open and took it.
Omerta
Initially he loved his new life. Tommy had newfound respect, money and power and all he had to do to keep it was give beatings here and there and speak to the right people. Tommy met the girl of his dreams and married her and had a child with her. All was going well for Tommy. He had everything he had wanted until he started to see the underbelly of his new life style, the side that he had not considered - the assassinations, the murders and the dangerous car chases that could so easily have resulted in death. Even this though was not as low as his chosen path would sink. Soon he was ordered to start killing people he knew, people close to his loved ones, even people who had helped him out in the past. Don Salieri believed that his assignments would be completely and totally carried out all of the time although this was not the case.
Soon Tommy decides he has but one way out...
