    Btw, I’m developing a lot of years a little mod (last build had over 1G:cool: which replaces the Free Ride mode.

    There are a lot of extensions, like better textures, models, missions and some new functional things.

    These recommended requirements are for max. details, 40+ framerate gameplay <img src=” data-emoticon=”” srcset=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/biggrin@2x.png 2x” width=”20″ height=”20″>

     

    The biggest influence to framerate has draw distance and trees.

    The draw distance (in city and countryside is: 3 kilometers) you can decrease in game settings.

    And level of detail on trees and other objects you can decrease there too.

     

    But I’m implementing more methods to increase FPS, for example: mipmapping for trees (it increase framerate almost 100%), streaming of people scripts and optimizing draw distances for cache groups in the city.

     

    So the mod should be playable with rational framerate on the very old machines <img src=” data-emoticon=”” srcset=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x” width=”20″ height=”20″>

     


    At the end I’m attaching a new screenshot from unfinished Central Island subway station, which is under Municipal building:

    Yes, I read yours discuss on the Mafiapub forum, but no, I didn’t used mirror visual object <img src=” data-emoticon=”” srcset=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x” width=”20″ height=”20″>

     

    In the Italian garden tables:

    I’m using environment / reflection map – which is created from wall screenshots from the bar.

    And for the better realism, I’m simulating bump mapping with the second material on the tables. This transparent layer has same diffuse map, contrasting noisy alpha map and same env. map, but his normal vectors are little rotated in three axes – this causes a little offset on the reflection (In Zmodeler: Surface -> Normals -> Rotate):

    The second technique:

    For reflection on the roads and pavements I’m using standard transparent material, but transp. materials have diffuse map and alpha map. And mustn’t change length of scene.4ds file, because on this model are linked face collisions and lightmaps. So you have to shorten length of texture names, to be able to “patch” old material with not changing length of file. Then I edited sky background and models of trees by creating “fake” reflection as reflected model under the trees and roads.

    This is usable for night too, with modified lamps:

    The screenshots with boiler are from my unreleased mission from the factory.

     

    And at the end, something about mipmapping:

    Mafia doesn’t support mipmapping but you can simulate it with same lods (level of details) with different textures.

    You can it create in Zmodeler with creating :1 , :2 , … ehind the object names.

    And on every lod you can apply different material. By default, the lod ratio in every object in 4ds model are set to 4000, but and modify it with hex editor. This technique increase framerate about 100% in the forest.

    I was also trying to convert whole mission from PS2 version, so Djbozkozs uploaded it for me, as I remember.

    There are only scene.4DS files there, you have to convert rest of the mission.

    Yes, it is converion of scene.4ds models from PS2 to PC version. Included are missing or different scene locations from the game.

    Like I said Cole. You have to rip and convert also scene2.bin, tree.klz and road.bin of Countryside from Playstation 2 version.

    Yes, but I should for it find all modified files and delete from this set unused files, because whole mod has size almost 1GB in 2000 files <img src=” data-emoticon=”” srcset=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/biggrin@2x.png 2x” width=”20″ height=”20″>

    Then I have some trobles with city and countryside missions: Incorrect rendering alpha materials in coutryside with water shader and in the city some overflows from RAM. I’m using hi-res ground textures with resolution 1024×1024, dense traffic with 100 cars and modified cache groups for increase draw distance to 3 kilometers. They are very high requirements to engine and when game reaches 1.5 GB used in RAM, game crashes with Video Memory Overlow Error :-

    So I’m still optimizing these things, but it takes a lot of time.

    Unfortunately I haven’t got a lot of time nowadays, because I have to programming some boring projects to school <img src=” data-emoticon=”” srcset=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/biggrin@2x.png 2x” width=”20″ height=”20″> Mafia modding is lot of better of course ;D

    I don’t know when, I haven’t got some time to working on it at the weekdays, because I have to write school projects (some algorithmic list functions in C language, display controlling in VHDL and script interpreter). Deadline is comming.

    Looking through your video’s and screenshots…. 2 words: Holy Shit!

    These improvements you are making just set an increddible atmosphere while even looking at it. I just love the autumn trees in the city with the yellow leaves on the road. bravo!

    But also the rest of your improved plants look great, the reflection technique you are applying is clever, low demanding for PC’s, and awesome looking! and the rest of the effects… I mean, screw enb series, this is a true visual improvement.

     

    I second Mike Bruski, it really makes me want to play the game all over again with the new visuals and features.

    I can’t wait!

    These projects like mountain, factory, subway, etc… will be both in the Boz Mod.

    Unfortunately, I haven’t got a lot of time last two weeks to working on it (I have to do some projects and learn to midterm exams to school), but I’m still trying implement some new things.

     

    Tomorrow, I’m writing a little manual, how to create valid destroyable object (like. phone box, explosive barrel, etc…) with own new model (Zmodeler, hex and MWE are needed).

     

    Then, I’m writing (when I have some free time) a new editor, like: 4ds manager, glow / bbrd / sector / morph / human converter both. With this tool you can access every value in every model. Now I have implemented opening all object types (about 10 types) – this is the hardest step, because I had to decoded whole structure of 4ds.

    Oh whow, that sounds very interesting and helpfull!

    Does the human converter mean you can import your own created and rigged characters ingame?

    There already was a method before of placing new NPC’s ingame, but the models could not be rigged, resulting in that the arms and legs had to be seperate objects in order to be able to move. And this caused some visible cracks in the model.

     

    I’m glad we got you on the modding community, I was affraid all programmers were long gone (not talking about mafiascripters of course <img src=” data-emoticon=”” srcset=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/wink@2x.png 2x” width=”20″ height=”20″> )

    [li]light auto-health[/li]

    [li]camera fov – for better acceleration and brake effect in the car[/li]

    [li]jump out of the car[/li]

    [li]photomode – custom camera set, save camera, etc.[/li]

    [li]dynamic weather and day cycle, sun ray effect, volumetric lights[/li]

    [li]reflective water – Water Shader (special thanks: MR F) + own water with sun reflection[/li]

    [li]reflective road[/li]

    [li]water isn’t deadly now[/li]

    [li]draw distance is increased to three kilometers[/li]

    [li]sparial grass and other vegetation[/li]

    [li]work on road, common jumping platforms[/li]

    [li]various types of missions: action from Salieri, something with cars from Lucas[/li]
