Title says all. AFAIK in the GTA games, as well as in others like Saints Row, the game streams content as the player moves from one area to another. Mafia 1 seems to also do this, as I can see LOD models of objects on occasion, but from what I can observe the engine divided Lost Heaven into sections depending on the mission.

You probably don’t understand structure of Mafia. Mafia don’t uses GTA concept with streamig, in Mafia, there are separated scenes for every mission part (And this is the reason, why Mafia isn’t suitable for sandbox styled mods).

If you were talking ONLY about city scenes, then it’s all about the graphics. For sure, there is draw distance, far clipping range and LOD’s, but when you are loading city, all objects are loaded AT ONCE. So, Lost Heaven isn’t chopped for sectors etc., it have only graphic optimalization. Whole city is one big map.

So the engine doesn’t stream content, then. I asked about this since I’m thinking as to how badly-done things were in the console versions of the game.

PS2 version is catastrophic!

I only like racing there. It’s AMAZING, especially new racing tracks at new locations like barn shortcut or mountain road.

Yeah, the only best bit from it was the racing missions which was added in lieu of what they cut when they ported the game to consoles. And IDK why the hell they did the same with the Xbox version when it’s clear that Microsoft’s console was a tad more powerful.

I wish I could port that missions from PS2 version of the game <img decoding=” data-emoticon=”” srcset=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x” width=”20″ height=”20″>

EDIT: OH SHIT!!! I copied DTA files from PS2 version of the game to Mafia folder and it works!!!! OG MY GOD!

EDIT2: 4ds files don’t work ><img decoding=” data-emoticon=”” srcset=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x” width=”20″ height=”20″> Most important feature bigwink.gif Playable parts have only about 600MB. All cutscenes are stored as a pre-rendered videos and they have 2,8GB bigwink.gif

Some time ago I tried it too, Mafia Data Xtractor successfully extracted all DTA archives, but 4ds ins’t compatible irritated.gif

I explored structure in 4ds files and it is little different.

And are you able to convert at least some 4DS files? I want scene.4ds files from missions TRAT09-12.
