Reddit Is Buzzing About a New Godfather Game. But Is It Real?
If you’ve been scrolling Reddit lately, you might have noticed something interesting. The name Godfather is popping up again in gaming threads. Not the movie. The game.
Over the past few weeks, multiple Reddit posts have been circulating about the possibility of a new Godfather game. Some are calling for a full remake of the 2006 classic. Others are speculating about a remaster for modern consoles. A few are even dreaming bigger and talking about a completely new entry in the franchise.
So what is actually going on?
Where the Rumors Started
Most of the buzz seems to come from nostalgia threads. Players are revisiting The Godfather: The Game and The Godfather II, saying they were ahead of their time. The territory system. The business takeovers. The crew management. For a lot of people, those mechanics still hold up today.
A few Reddit posts claim that “something is in development,” but none of them provide any real sources. No studio announcements. No publisher statements. No credible leaks. Just speculation and wishful thinking.
Right now, that is all it is. Wishful thinking.
Why Fans Want It Back
There are a few reasons the idea keeps resurfacing.
First, organized crime games are hot again. With the success of titles in the Mafia genre and open world crime games continuing to evolve, fans feel like a modern Godfather game could really shine if done right.
Second, the original games never got proper remasters. They are stuck on older consoles and hard to access for new players. That alone fuels the demand.
Third, let’s be honest. The Corleone name still carries weight. The legacy of The Godfather is timeless. Every few years, someone rediscovers it and wonders why we do not have a modern game built around that world.
The Reality Check
Here is the important part.
There has been no official announcement from Paramount or any major game studio confirming a new Godfather project. No trademarks filed recently. No press releases. Nothing solid.
Licensing alone would be complicated. The original games were published by EA, and rights situations change over time. That kind of project is not simple to revive.
So for now, the Reddit chatter is just that. Chatter.
Could It Happen Someday?
Never say never. We have seen older franchises make surprise comebacks before. If a studio believes there is enough demand and the licensing can be worked out, anything is possible.
But as of today, there is no confirmed Godfather remake, remaster, or sequel in development.
Still, the fact that the community keeps bringing it up says something. The appetite for a deep, strategic mafia experience rooted in that universe is definitely there.
If a new Godfather game were announced tomorrow, would you want a faithful remake of the original? Or a completely new story set in the same world?
Over here at Mafia Scene, we would not complain either way.
